Forensics

Riverside took 1st place in team sweepstakes at the Northeast Kansas League tournament Tuesday, February 25th in Horton. With 18 individual competitors covering 11 separate speaking, acting, and interpretation events, RHS has one of the largest and most diverse teams in the area. 

The team’s actors swept the tournament taking all state qualifying positions in serious, humorous, and duet acting. In serious solo, senior Elizabeth Smith is the league champion with sophomore Nicholas Watson placing second. In humorous solo, sophomore Zoey Jones is the league champion with Elizabeth Smith placing second.

Riverside duet acting teams took first through fourth. Sophomores Kelsey Stroud and Trevin Russell are the league champions. The senior team of Savannah Ball and Rafael Silva placed second, their first championship qualification of the year. Sophomores Mylee Gay and Adam Evans placed 3rd. Senior Dylan Brooke and sophomore Nicholas Watson placed 4th. The freshman IDA team of Hannah Anderson and Asher McCourt placed 6th in finals.

In speech events, freshman Kahmelah White placed 4th in informative and 3rd in impromptu earning a state festival qualification in the latter. Kelsey Stroud earned a state championship qualification in original oration. 

This is the team’s 4th tournament and 2nd sweepstakes win. The team previously placed 2nd at Sabetha, 1st at Nemaha Central, and 4th at Royal Valley (with a partial team).
