Riverside’s track team traveled to Effingham Tuesday, April 13th for the ACCHS Invitational track meet. The day was crisp with a chilly west wind, but the track members were just pleased to have the sun shining. The only placer on the day was Sophie Juhl in the long jump with 14 feet 3 inches that placed her fourth. It was her first time participating in that event. She also ran a personal best in the 100-meter dash with a 13.9. Her other events were the 200 – 30.5 and the triple jump – 28’ 5”. Allison Shultz tried a new event, high jump, and found herself happy by clearing opening height. “With more practice I know she can continue to improve and jump even higher next meet,” Coach Koranda said. Allison also long jumped 10’ 3” then ran personal best times in both the 100-meter dash - 16.8 and the 200-meter dash – 35.8. Emma Koranda, Riverside’s thrower, participated in the javelin – 49’ 10”, discus – 40’ 10’, and Shot – 17-10, which was a personal best for her in that event for the year.
For the boys, Hayden Daugherty ran the 1600 meter run 5:40.8 and the 800 2:32.8, both personal records, despite dealing with some leg pain. Chris Brooke long jumped 11’ 3” then ran best times of the year for him in both 100 – 14.1 and the 200 – 29.4. Dylan Wertin in his first meet of the year threw all three implements: shot 26’ 7”, discus – 66’ 5.75”, and javelin – 83’ 1”.
