Riverside SADD Students Participate in "Taking Down Tobacco Day" at the State Capitol. Thursday March 5 students from Riverside High School and other schools around the state gathered together with the American Cancer Society to advocate against tobacco the tobacco industry's influence in their communities and among their peers in the annual "Taking Down Tobacco" day, formerly known as "Kick Butts Day". It is a day where students are able to go to the state capital to meet with their state government officials to discuss what can be done to affect laws regarding tobacco use and help promote healthier decisions being made in their communities. Several students from Riverside HS attended this event along with counselor Shelly Vertin. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the legislative process, practice leadership and advocacy skills and influence change at the state level. A big thank you to our local leadership and Mrs. Vertin for supporting our group in this and other endeavors.
