No School for Riverside USD 114 - Friday, March 29th and Monday, April 1st!

Riverside Elementary will be giving the Kansas State Assessments starting this week through April 12th, 2024. This week 5th graders will test in science. The week of April 1st, 3rd-5th graders will test in ELA. The week of April 8th, 3rd-5th graders will test in Math. Testing will take place on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. To help your child do their best, feel confident, and in control of their testing experience, we have some tips: Eat a healthy breakfast. Help children choose foods that fuel their bodies and brains to do their best work! Get a good night's sleep. Having a consistent bedtime every night brings structure and routine to a child’s day that helps them thrive. But on nights before a big test, getting to bed early, by 9:00 PM or earlier, is even more important! We want our kiddos to be as rested and energized as possible for the big test. Also, make sure your child wakes up in the morning with plenty of time to get ready for school, so they don’t feel rushed. Anything we can do to limit students’ stress on test days is critical! Dress comfortably. If your outfit makes you readjust, feels uncomfortable, causes you to fidget, then you should probably pick something else to wear. Arrive on time. Arriving on time gives your child time to eat school breakfast, greet their friends, relax and not feel rushed in the morning. They won’t cause disruptions when arriving on time opposed to being late and class already starting. Think positive thoughts. Thinking positively can reduce test anxiety and improve exam focus. Remind your child to ask questions if they don’t understand the test directions. Remind your child that they can take their time on state assessments, so if they need to go slowly, they can. You can write your child an encouraging note and put it in their backpack. This lets them know you have confidence in their ability to do well. Advise your child not to worry and to just do their best!

Tomorrow March 26th, 2024: All sporting events have been cancelled. We will keep everyone updated if there are any makeup dates for the events.

Here are your softball and baseball schedules! Softball games will begin at 4:30 p.m. and JV games will be dependent on numbers and information will be posted as we know. Also we are going to have Senior night on 4/15 vs Jeff West. Then just in case we have extra dates 4/19 or 5/2 if weather doesn't cooperate this spring.

Riverside has been selected as a host school for the Women’s Elite 8 basketball tournament we have been assigned the Ferris State University Bulldogs!! We invite you to come show your Cyclones Pride, meet players and participate in a community pep rally. Sunday, March 24th at 2:00 come get loud at the East Gym as we welcome our NCAA school and cheer them on in the tourney!

This Saturday, 3/16/24, Riverside and Troy will be hosting softball and baseball jamborees in Wathena. Games will begin at 1:00. Schedule: Valley Falls vs Troy Valley Falls vs JCN JCN vs Troy Valley Falls vs Riverside JCN vs Riverside Troy vs Riverside (only softball) (baseball will NOT play Troy)Scrimmages will be 45 minutes max with 10 min warmup between. Scrimmages might run early.

Mrs. Gatz visited our first grade students to read the final two books in our Winter Battle of the Books. Students read and voted for eight books to determine the champion: Ten on the Sled by Kim Norman. Thanks to Mrs. Gatz for spending time with us!

Any student living in the Riverside School District who will be 4 by August 31, 2024 may sign up to attend. We will do a developmental screening as well as hearing and vision tests. Students who will be 3 by August 31, 2024, may also sign up to attend to determine if specialized instruction and/or related services are warranted. Please call the East Campus at (913) 365-6735 to make an appointment. PROOF OF RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPOINTMENT.
